Couldn't Have Said It Better Myself

Except for the whole "He's my boyfriend" part. That would just be weird.

Foreshadowing

Did any of you who watched President Obama (wow, does it feel good to finally get to say that!)'s inaugural address catch the historical inaccuracy? In case you missed it, here it is:

"Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath."

As we know from my previous post, that is not true.

Isn't it weird that I would ask that just days before Obama makes the wrong statement? Does that mean I'm psychic? I'm just like River Tam, but not as hot. And I can't do this.

Awesome

CNN's Rick Sanchez puts the smackdown on Joe the Plumber, aka Joe the War Correspondent, for comments he made in Israel about media coverage during wartime.

Why won't this jagoff just disappear? Why are we still talking about him?

Mr. President, Duck!

Say what you want about how evil and incompetent President Bush is, the man does have good reflexes for his age!

Obama and Lincoln: Comparisons between the Elections of 1860 and 2008 Part Deux

In an earlier post before the election, I noted a couple of similarities between Abraham Lincoln's run for the presidency in 1860 and Barack Obama's run in 2008. One of the similarities I described was:

Both men became their party's candidate for President at the expense of more-heavily favored candidate. Hillary Clinton was the front-runner for a long time before Obama beat her in the primary. Lincoln beat out Republican heavyweight William Henry Seward. The Republican convention thought Seward's seemingly radical stance on slavery made him unlikely to win. Coincidentally, both Clinton and Seward were senators from New York when they ran for President, and both were forced to campaign for the person who just beat them.

Well, now add one other comparison. Abraham Lincoln appointed William Henry Seward to be his Secretary of State. Barack Obama has tipped Hillary Clinton to be his Secretary of State.

Of course, throughout the Obama presidency, I will be on the lookout for more comparisons to the Lincoln administration. You'll be the first to know if I find any.

Message to the Religious Right

I just read this blog post over at Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters. It is written by a homosexual African-American male from South Carolina, and addresses the backlash against the LGBT community's protests of the passage of Prop 8. I must say, he excellently addresses the historical nature of why the LGBT community is beginning to organize massive protests. And, of course, I whole-heartedly support their cause and hope for their success. Maybe the CA Supreme Court, which did agree to hear arguments against Prop 8, will finally rule that all this nonsense against gay marriage is unconstitutional.

Speechless...Again

The more I find out about Sarah Palin the happier I am that her and McCain got their asses handed to them Tuesday night. Take a look at this Huffington Post article, and watch the video even though it's from The O'Reilly Factor.

Wow.

If McCain's Concession Speech Was As Bitter As His Campaign

Shock

Did it really happen? Am I going to wake up and realize that the last 24 hours have all been a crazy wonderful dream? Did I really see history happen before my eyes?

Could Barack Obama really have been elected?

I'm just going to assume that this is reality. The chance that this is a dream is too horrible to contemplate.

America has just elected the first African-American leader in its history. Not only that, but this is the first time a Western country has elected a black person to lead it. Not only that, but it is someone I believe will become one of the great presidents this country has ever had. I have been able to vote in three presidential elections. The first one, in 2000, I voted Libertarian, as I was not impressed with Bush, and still had enough conservative ideals to make me not vote for Gore. In 2004, with my assimilation over to the dark side of liberalism complete, I cast my vote for John Kerry. He lost. Now, I cast a vote for Barack Obama, and he won. For the first time since 1988 (I was 7, and liked George H.W. Bush) this country is going to have a president that I want to be in office.

I think my friend from Missouri summed it all up rather nicely in a text message she sent me about 5 minutes after Obama was declared the winner:

"Holy shit!"

Free For All!

I just watched the documentary Free For All! online. The film documents cases of voter irregularities and outright fraud in Ohio during the 2004 presidential election. It is a good film which should piss off anyone who believes in democracy, no matter who they vote for on November 4. I encourage voters in other states outside of Washington (where we went to an all absentee voting system, thereby disenfranchising a number of eligible voters) to be vigilant when they go to the polls, and report any questionable activities. And I encourage everyone to watch the film.

Watch Free For All!

Below are a couple of links on preventing or reporting voting irregularities:

Also, think that in 2008 there can't be any election fraud? Well, you're wrong, and I'm not talking about ACORN not breaking any election laws. I'm talking about McCain's ties to people who are in jail for voter fraud, as discussed by Keith Olbermann the other night.
