Sad Days

It's not a good day when one of your favorite actors dies. It's an even worse one when two die on back to back days.

Yesterday:
R.I.P. Patrick McGoohan (1928-2009)

Known to sci-fi fans as Number Six in TV's The Prisoner, many modern viewers remember him for his role as Edward I in Braveheart. Still others (actually, probably just me) remember him as the bad guy in Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend. He will truly be missed.

Today:
R.I.P. Ricardo Montalban (1920-2009)

Best known as...you know what? I don't give a crap about Fantasy Island. He was Khan. As in Wrath of.... He created one of the great bad guys in movie history with his performance. All Trekkies worldwide should look up to the heavens and, in his honor, shout

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

  1. NO! What about the Prisoner movie they were working on? #6 was supposed to be producer! Also he was the Secret Agent in "Secret Agent Man." I loved both of those shows.

Not Ricardo Montalban! I love him. He's the bad guy (not just the voice, but the actual bad guy) on Freakazoid. This is truly a dark day. My dad's going to be bummed.

  2. RE: Ricardo Montalban re: Freakazoid:
His character was Armondo Guitierrez (a remarkably Montalban-esque guy), but I know what you mean.

He was born in 1920, and Wrath of... was in 1982, when he was 60+. which led to this comment on Slashdot:

"At 60+, Mantalban was still built like a god with big slabs of muscle."

People joke about his "prosthetic chest", but that was all Montalban.

  3. It is sad that, at 60+, he was in better shape than I ever will be in my entire life.

Another notable Montalban performance: as Vincent Ludwig in The Naked Gun. I can still recite that movie from memory.

  4. That's right he didn't play himself just a cartoon mockery of himself. I still loved him in Freakazoid. What an awesome cartoon.
